He loves being able to connect with the audience while performing live and he hopes that they can leave with a smile on their face having enjoyed the show. He is honored to have experienced some of the fun performances he has gotten to play at, including playing bass at a Grateful Dead yoga retreat in Mexico. He feels that writing songs is a perfect way to get your emotions off your chest. He recorded his most recent EP in an underground studio, where he played all of the instruments except for drums. He says that Americana can be so many different things as music, and he loves being able to write music because of how differently it can be interpreted by every single person. Flash Mountain Flood is a jam band that has also played country and blues music, and Ohl describes his solo music under the Americana umbrella. While Flash Mountain Flood still plays locally, they don’t play quite as much as they used to, and Ohl’s solo career has filled the spots that the Flash Mountain Flood performances used to fill. When they first started out, they played four to five nights a week, which Ohl is thankful for because of all he learned about the music industry at the time. ![]() Even though he wasn’t a bass player at the time, the band figured he could learn along the way and called him to join the lineup. He has been obsessed with music since he was a kid, and he has memories of listening to music and dreaming of one day playing it himself as a career.Īround his high school years, Ohl learned that his friends were forming a band called Flash Mountain Flood, and they needed a bass player. Within the last few years, however, he has also started focusing on his solo career, releasing various singles under his name. ![]() Derek Dames Ohl has said that he grew up playing with the band Flash Mountain Flood. ![]()
